DIRECT ACCESS - THE BIG BIKE TEST.

The Direct Access Scheme is a course that allows you to learn to ride on a larger bike than 125cc, typically taught on between 500cc-650cc bikes.  You have to be at least 21 at the moment to take a DAS course.  Once you have passed your tests on the larger bike (above 46.6 bhp) then you are allowed to ride a big bike straight away.

We run courses from the 2 day Express course for an experienced rider up to the 6 day Assured course.

To give you a quick idea of which DAS course you think you would be most suitable for:

  • Experienced rider on a larger capacity motorcycle – 2 to 3 DAY course
  • Rider that is confident on a smaller bike (125cc) but new to big bikes – 4 to 5 DAY course.
  • Novice to riding – 6 DAY course.

We can always do half days of training as well.

The length of course can depend on many things, level of experience, confidence, whether or not you already hold a current CBT certificate.

It is normally best to speak to one of our trained advisors so that we can guide you towards the correct course for you or book you in for a free assessment (current CBT required for this) as we tailor make our courses to you as much as possible.

HOW A TYPICAL ASSURED 6 DAY COURSE IS DESIGNED TO BE CARRIED OUT:

  • CBT - Day 1- This is the day designed to teach the student how to ride on the 125cc manual bike, this day carries a guarantee that is if a 2nd day of training is needed to reach the required basic standard then that day is free of charge.

This is also a good day to take before committing to the full course, it is a great way to check that you like riding and the school that you have chosen.  It is also a good way for us to assess you as people do pick up new skills at different rates and some people don't need the whole 6 days inc.

To take the practical tests you would need to pass the motorcycle theory test but this can be done at any stage before booking the practical tests, you don't need the theory test for the CBT course.

  •  Day 2 - After the CBT we would normally do day 2 on the 125cc, basically getting the skills honed from the CBT so that you are a confident rider on the 125cc with all of the skills in place ready to move you onto the 500cc bike.

This is the day that can sometimes be missed out or shortened to a half day if you pick up the initial skills quickly on the CBT.

  • Day 3 would be to get you ready and happy with riding the 500cc covering a lot of miles before moving onto the in depth test training for mod 1 and 2.
  • Day 4 - This day we practice the Module 1 test when we hire the test centre space to teach you all the parts of mod 1 and get you ready.  The rest of the day we again cover a lot of miles showing you other areas and getting you to be a confident rider.
  • Day 5 - Mod 1 test (And lots of miles on road)
  • Day 6 - Mod 2 test at the end of the day.
