HOW LONG DOES A CBT LAST FOR?

A CBT certificate is valid for 2 years.

MY CBT HAS RUN OUT AND I NEED TO RE-NEW IT, DO I HAVE TO DO THE WHOLE THING AGAIN?

To ride up to a 125cc motorcycle:

Yes - If you would like to continue riding up to a 125cc on "L" Plates you have to complete the CBT course again. By law the CBT syllabus cannot be changed or shortened, even if you have completed it once already.

To ride a moped - up to 49cc:

Not necessarily - The CBT certificate validates, for the life of the licence, the full moped entitlement granted with a full car licence issued in respect of a practical car test passed on or after 1st February 2001 if, either:

The car test is passed within 2 years of this certificate being issued, or
The training course (CBT) was completed after the car test was passed.

I HAVE A FULL CAR LICENCE; DO I NEED TO TAKE A CBT?

If you would like to ride up to a 125cc motorcycle then the answer is YES!

If you would like to ride only up to 49cc moped the answer is NO if you passed your full car test prior to Feb 2001. If you passed your car test after Feb 2001 then the answer is YES.

WHAT IS THE MINIMUM DISTANCE REQUIREMENT FOR THE EYESIGHT CHECK FOR CBT AND FULL TEST?

You must be able to read a registration plate from a distance of at least 20.5 metres. A letter from your opticians saying your eyesight is good enough won't be any good.

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU PROVIDE FOR THE TRAINING?

We provide hire of the motorcycle / moped needed and booked for the day's training. We provide use of helmet, bike jacket, gloves and waterproofs. We provide all radio communication equipment needed.

DO YOU OFFER ANY HELP WITH THE THEORY TEST AND HAZARD PERCEPTION TEST?

Yes we offer free in-house theory training at our offices on Cosham High Street, Portsmouth. We will go through either or both CD's of training and mock tests with you. This service is free provided you are training with 1st Castle and we ask you book in advance to make sure the equipment is available for your use.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I FAIL MY MODULE ONE PRACTICAL TEST?

Both modules must be passed before the candidate’s theory test certificate expires. Candidates must pass Module 1 before taking Module 2. If they fail candidates must wait three clear working days before retaking their Module 1. Candidates must present their Module 1 pass certificate when attending their Module 2.

WHAT IS THE VALIDITY OF THE MODULE ONE PASS CERTIFICATE?

It is valid until the expiry date of the candidate’s theory test certificate.

HOW LONG MUST I WAIT IF TO RE-BOOK IF I FAIL MODULE ONE OR TWO?

3 clear working days, to re-book a Module one practical test. 10 clear working days, to re-book a Module two practical test.

The part one test (off road) can be booked seperately to the part two test (on road) or they can be booked to be taken together. If you fail the off road part to the test you can not move onto the on road test. When training we will be able to book practice slots so that you can practice the off road elements on the DSA site before you take the test.
